Meet Our Pastor
Pastor Travis Tyler was saved at an early age and felt the Lord calling him to the ministry while a freshman in college. He received a bachelor’s degree from Tennessee State University, Johnson City, Tennessee in 2003. He earned his master of Divinity degree in 2007 from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, with concentrated studies in missions, evangelism, and church growth.
Pastor Tyler began God’s work as the youth and children’s minister at Litz Manor Baptist Church in Kingsport, Tennessee. Later, while attending Southern Seminary, he was pastor at Antioch Baptist Church in Bedford, Kentucky. In July, 2005, while still a seminary student, he became our associate pastor of students here at First Southern Baptist Church, Floyds Knobs. In October 2008, the membership of First Southern named him as the senior pastor.
He grew up in Fall Branch, Tennessee, a small town in East Tennessee. Travis is married to Becki, a former St. Louis resident, and they have one son, Asher Tyler. Becki is an active part and integral strength of the ministry at First Southern.
Pastor Tyler’s vision of what it means to be a minister for Christ is described in 2 Corinthians 6:3-10. “My passion is to be a servant leader, evangelizing the lost and loving the people in my care."
